Last night I noticed that the milk and other items in our frige had a chilled but not cold feeling to them. Even the taste of the milk was almost luke warm.
The settings 0 to 9, 9 being the coldest is set for 7 in the frige and 5 in the freezer. We have the GE Eterna series where the freezer is on top.
The settings have not been changed at all. The freezer contents are frozen and do not appear more or less frozen like the refrigerator contents.
Several possibilities.
On some frost free models (don't know about this particular one), the drain from the freezer can easily become clogged with stuff from the freezer. Then, when the fridge goes through defrost cycle, the water doesn't drain, and re-freezes, giving you an ice plug. Over time, then, the freezer ices up and the fridge gets warm. This usually is visible, but may be totally behind the covers. The other common problem that accompanies this problem is water dripping down into the fridge. To fix it, you defrost the thing.
Another possibility is something plugging the vent leading from the freezer to the fridge. In this case, the freezer will remain cold while the fridge warms up.
Another possibility is a bad door seal on the fridge.
Another possibility is a failed defrost timer, stuck in the 'heat" position, which is running the door heaters continuously (not all fridges have door heaters; these are used to keep frost from accumulating on the doors).
If the freezer remains cold, it is unlikely there is a freon-related problem, though this is not impossible.
