Vista Security policy issues have caused problems with many people who wanted to install The Property Manager Release 5 on their system. Fortunately, Microsoft has finally recognized what a problem Vista is, and Windows 7 seems to be much better.
The Property Manager Release 5 only works with 32 bit Windows Vista, and does not work with 64 bit Windows Vista. The Property Manager Release 6 supports 32 and 64 bit Windows.
We have had reports of installation problems with The Property Manager Release 5 in Windows Vista. We know that only some Vista users are affected by this, and we don't know know what is causing it but we do know how to fix it. This is a Vista bug.
If you install The Property Manager Release 5 on a Vista system and when you double-click on the desktop icon to start the program, if you get an error message telling you that no program is found, then proceed as follows:
1. Right-click on the desktop icon for The Property Manager to get a pop-up menu of choices.
2. From that menu, choose "Properties"
3. In the dialog that pops up, click on the "Shortcut" tab.
4. On that tab is a textbox named "Target". Click into that textbox.
5. In that textbox, enter the following text, exactly as written here (you might want to just copy and paste this text string):
C:\SB30\SBRTS30.exe C:\ThePropertyManager\PMGR.SBR
After you enter this text, select the "OK" button on the requester. Now your program will start.
Please note that if you installed your Release 5 program anyplace other than the default locations (which are C:\SB30 and C:\ThePropertyManager) you will have to put the proper location information into the Target string in the requester
